Transportation Planning Intern

Job Description 

We want you to join our team! The DVRPC’s Office of Safe Streets is focused on achieving Regional Vision Zero 2050, and works with regional partners to improve road safety for all users. We employ multiple approaches to interpret crash trends and identify improvement strategies through analysis while also promoting a safety culture and supporting our partners in their local safety efforts. This is an opportunity to work independently and collaboratively on discrete projects including the Regional Vision Zero 2050 Action

Program (RVZ) by analyzing data, drafting plan components, and coordinating with county partners. Current work includes a Regional High Injury Network Corridor Study, a focused safety study for Norristown Borough, both involve data analysis and interpretation, partner coordination, and public engagement, among other activities. OSS and DVRPC’s other multi-modal planning offices are collaborating on several new safety projects beginning this summer including a City of Philadelphia Vision Zero Corridor Study, a SEPTA safety project to evaluate system critical locations, and a regional school safety project. 

Responsibilities 

  • Assist with research, data collection and analysis, and diagram preparation.
  • May assist with graphic design for reports and presentations. 
  • Participate in stakeholder and study committee meetings, outreach events, and fieldwork as needed.

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated interest in transportation planning, crash safety, and land use planning principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google products, familiarity with ArcGIS and graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience assimilating technical information and communicating it clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to switch among diverse tasks, potentially for multiple people, and remain on schedule and organized.
  • Ability to establish professional relationships with associates and representatives of other organizations.

Availability 

Ability to start on June 2nd or 8th, 2026 is preferred. This is a hybrid, full-time position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation 

Interns currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree will be paid $19 per hour. Those currently pursuing or holding a Master’s  degree will receive $22 per hour. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training 

Must have completed at least ONE YEAR of a college/university program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training; enrollment in a master's program is desirable but not required. Substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation planning, or transportation safety planning would be ideal.
