Bike the Pike, a low stress recommended bike route that parallels Chester Pike in eastern Delaware County, held its grand opening and inaugural ride event on May 30th in Sharon Hill, PA. The 7.2 mile corridor connects the boroughs of Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park, Ridley Park, and Sharon Hill. Based on the recently completed Chester Pike Corridor Master Plan, this project’s goal is to educate and provide public outreach about route options for safer bicycling in these communities. “Bike the Pike” also works to improve quality of life and economic development opportunities along the corridor.

The initiative organized by Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners (CPCIP) in conjunction with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia’s Annual Spring Ride and Team Don Austin Foundation Cycling Club, was funded through DVRPC's Travel Options Program (TOP). TOP funds innovative projects that aim to reduce single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) trips and promote alternative travel options.

“Bike the Pike is designed for everyone—whether they are a daily commuter or a neighbor supporting our local small businesses,” said Executive Director of CPCIP, Mary Bethea. “Programs like DVRPC's TOP grant are the lifeblood of these community expansions. They give us the resources to break down transportation barriers, improve public health, and build a more vibrant, connected future across all five of our member boroughs.”
